WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LASER FOR HAIR REMOVAL.?
At Epilia, all centers are equipped with Candela brand Alexandrite type lasers .
But why this choice? What other types of lasers and techniques exist on the market for permanent laser hair removal ? Let’s do a little overview to better understand what it is.
HOW DO LASER TYPES WORK?
Before revealing the specificities of the different types of laser, let us explain how they work.
The laser targets the pigmentation of the hair (ie melanin). It emits a very concentrated beam of light with a precise wavelength. This light will turn into heat when it is absorbed by the melanin. When the pigment of the hair follicle (cavity in which the hair originates) is reached, the hair and its bulb are destroyed and then ejected, which makes regrowth impossible.
Principle types of laser hair removal
The epidermis, meanwhile, remains completely intact. There is therefore no collateral damage to the surrounding tissues.
Laser hair removal is suitable for both women and men who finally wish to obtain real comfort in everyday life.
THE ALEXANDRITE LASER
Epilia has chosen the Alexandrite laser from the Candela brand , which is currently the world leader in the field of dermatological and aesthetic lasers.
Alexandrite is a semi-precious stone which filters the light (wavelength of 755 nanometers) which will be absorbed by the melanin of the hair. This ensures precise penetration of the light beam without requiring high intensity.
All of the scientific studies conclude that Alexandrite is, to date, the laser that offers the most convincing results on fair and intermediate skin.
THE ND-YAG LASER
The Nd-Yag laser is indicated for the treatment of dull to black skin. It has a wavelength of 1064 nanometers. This wavelength is very little absorbed by melanin and ensures deep penetration of the light beam.
Its thermal effect on the hair is low and results in the delivery of a high intensity. The indications for this type of material are long-lasting hair removal on black skin or deeply rooted hair.
THE DIODE LASER
The Diode laser , clearly less efficient than Alexandrite, has the advantage of being less expensive and more compact. This also makes it easily transportable. It has a wavelength of 810 to 980 nanometers (wider wavelength spectrum than Alexandrite and ND-Yag).
Its wavelength is little absorbed by melanin but allows deeper penetration of the light beam.
The lower absorption by melanin is both an advantage (tanning and pigmentation of the skin are little affected), and a disadvantage (when they become lighter and finer, the hairs resist treatment).
Although it is a promising technique, it is currently not yet mature, the treatment requiring a significant number of sessions .
ARE THERE OTHER TECHNIQUES THAN THE LASER?
Yes, there is yet another technique that is often confused with laser hair removal. This is pulsed light hair removal . These are two very different hair removal techniques, both in terms of safety and effectiveness.
PULSED LIGHT VERSUS LASER
Pulsed light : the flash lamps used for pulsed light hair removal deliver a less selective, less powerful and more random light than the laser. In addition, the power of pulsed light is lower and only causes the weakening of the hair follicle, so it offers an ephemeral and transient but not definitive result .
The results are therefore very often less effective, disappointing and can involve significant dangers of burns .
The laser , on the other hand, emits a more intense and more selective beam of light which destroys the bulb of the hair and therefore allows you to benefit from truly permanent hair removal .
Unlike pulsed light, the laser is practiced exclusively by medical personnel who have received specific qualifying training. The training required for the practice of the laser makes this act a very supervised technique and the subject of numerous studies of effectiveness and safety. It is indeed the only technique that can guarantee you a permanent, safe and effective eradication of unwanted hair.
THE LASER FOR PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL IN BRIEF
Epilia has chosen to equip itself with lasers from the latest technology. These are Alexandrite-type lasers from the Candela brand . Ultra efficient, this type of laser guarantees you permanent hair removal, in optimal conditions of safety and hygiene.
